Warranty

At Bike Shed, we want you to enjoy your new bike with complete confidence. We carefully prepare every bike before it leaves us, but if something isn't quite right, we're here to help.

Whether it's a warranty claim, a manufacturing fault or simply a question about your bike, our experienced team will guide you through the process from start to finish. We'll always do our best to make things as straightforward as possible.

Your First Service

Like any new bike, yours will settle in during its first few rides. As cables bed in and components naturally settle, small adjustments may be required.

We strongly recommend having your bike inspected by a qualified bike shop within 4–6 weeks of purchase.

A first service should include:

Keeping a record of this service is recommended, as some manufacturers may ask for evidence that the bike has been correctly maintained when assessing a warranty claim.

Making a Warranty Claim

If you believe your bike or component has developed a manufacturing fault, we're here to help.

Simply complete our online Warranty Form and one of our workshop team will review your claim as quickly as possible. We'll let you know what information we need and advise you on the next steps.

Where appropriate, we'll liaise directly with the manufacturer on your behalf and keep you updated throughout the process.

Where possible, we'll also give you our honest opinion before an item is returned for inspection. However, please remember that the final decision on any manufacturer's warranty claim always rests with the manufacturer, not Bike Shed.

Returning an Item for Inspection

Some warranty claims require the item to be returned for inspection by either ourselves or the manufacturer.

If a product needs to be returned, we'll explain exactly what needs to happen before any arrangements are made.

If the manufacturer determines that the issue is not covered under warranty, any return carriage and associated costs may become the responsibility of the customer. We'll always discuss this with you before proceeding wherever possible.

Local Bike Shops & Warranty Work

Many component manufacturers allow warranty claims to be handled through their authorised dealer network. In many cases this can be the quickest and most convenient way of resolving an issue.

If you choose to use a local authorised dealer:

Please ensure that any workshop carrying out warranty work is an authorised dealer for the brand concerned.

Of course, you're equally welcome to return your bike to Bike Shed. Our Cytech-qualified mechanics can carry out any approved warranty work, and if the bike was purchased from us, no labour charges will apply for warranty repairs completed in our workshop.

Returning Your Bike to Bike Shed

Occasionally a bike may need to be returned to us for inspection or warranty work.

Unless otherwise agreed, the cost of returning the bike to us is the responsibility of the customer. If you'd prefer, we can arrange collection using our courier service for a fixed charge (currently £80).

Before collection we'll ask you to provide photographs of the bike's condition. This protects both you and us should any damage occur during transport.

Once the bike arrives, our workshop will inspect it and, where required, liaise directly with the manufacturer to achieve the quickest possible resolution.

What Is Covered?

Most bikes and components are covered by a manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials or workmanship.

Warranty periods vary depending on the manufacturer and the product. As a guide:

Where a manufacturer offers extended frame warranties through product registration, we strongly recommend registering your bike as soon as you receive it.

Full warranty information can always be found on the individual manufacturer's website.

What Isn't Covered?

Manufacturer warranties generally do not cover:

As with all manufacturer's warranties, the final decision on whether a fault is covered rests with the manufacturer.

Your Consumer Rights

A manufacturer's warranty is provided in addition to your statutory consumer rights and does not replace them.

If you believe a product is faulty, please contact us first and we'll help you find the most appropriate solution. We're always happy to discuss the options available and guide you through the process.

Returns

We want you to be delighted with your purchase. Every bike and accessory is carefully prepared and checked by our workshop before it leaves Bike Shed, and we take great care when packaging orders for delivery.

If something isn't right, we'll always do our best to put it right as quickly as possible.

If Your Bike Arrives Damaged or Faulty

If your bike arrives with transit damage or you believe there is a manufacturing fault, please let us know as soon as possible.

To help us resolve the issue quickly, we ask that you:

Many issues can be resolved without the bike needing to be returned, and our workshop team will always look for the quickest and most convenient solution first.

Please don't arrange repairs with another bike shop without speaking to us beforehand, as we may not be able to reimburse any labour or repair costs that haven't been agreed in advance.

What's Covered?

If your bike arrives with:

We'll work with you to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, whether that's through replacement parts, repair or, where appropriate, replacing the bike.

What's Not Covered?

This process does not cover:

Faulty Goods

If a fault develops after you've started using your bike, please contact us first.

Depending on the nature of the issue, we'll advise whether the problem can be resolved locally, whether replacement parts can be supplied, or whether we'd like the bike returned for inspection.

Our aim is always to get you back riding as quickly as possible.

Returning an Unwanted Bike (Distance Sales)

If you've purchased your bike online or over the phone and you've changed your mind, you have the right to cancel your order within the applicable cancellation period under UK distance selling regulations.

If you decide you no longer want your bike, please let us know within 14 days of delivery. Once you've notified us, the bike should be returned within the required return period.

To qualify for a change-of-mind return, the bike must:

Please note that you'll be responsible for the cost of returning the bike unless we've agreed otherwise. Currently £80

If you no longer have the original packaging, please speak to us before returning the bike. We're happy to advise on the safest way to package it for transport.

Bike Collections

If you'd prefer not to arrange your own courier, Bike Shed can organise collection for you.

Collection costs vary depending on your location and bike type. We'll always confirm the cost before arranging anything.

Where possible, we recommend keeping your original bike box until you're certain you won't need to return the bike, as this provides the safest method of transport.

Custom Builds & Special Orders

Custom-built bikes and products specially ordered for you are made specifically to your requirements.

Because of this, these orders cannot usually be cancelled or returned unless the item is faulty.

For custom bike builds, we'll agree the specification with you in writing before work begins. A deposit is required before parts are ordered and assembly starts.

If you choose to cancel a custom build after work has commenced or parts have been ordered specifically for your bike, your deposit may be retained to cover the costs already incurred.

We'll always be open and transparent about this before your order is confirmed.

Examples of Special Orders include:

If your order is classed as a Special Order, we'll make this clear before taking payment.

Returning Accessories

If you've changed your mind about an accessory or component, we're happy to help.

Items should be:

Please contact us before returning any item so we can provide return instructions.

Unless the item is faulty or supplied in error, return postage costs are the responsibility of the customer.

International Returns

If you're returning a bike from outside the UK, please contact us before arranging shipment.

We'll help you find the most cost-effective and secure way of returning your bike, although return shipping costs remain the responsibility of the customer unless otherwise agreed.

Refunds

Once your return has been received, our workshop or returns team will inspect it.

Refunds are normally processed within 5–7 working days of inspection.

We'll always keep you updated throughout the process and let you know if we need any further information.
