Nello Bike Ride
16th May 2017
The annual Nello Bike Ride, a 100 mile 'century' cycle challenge, is the biggest fundraising event in the FORCE Cancer Charity calendar.
The inaugural ride saw a group of 120 cycling friends and enthusiasts take on the 100 mile challenge in memory of much loved local Topsham restauranteur, Nello Ghezzo, who passed away from cancer in 1999. Their route – one of Nello’s favourite rides around the Devon countryside – offers challenging hills, fantastic downhill sections and stunning scenery.
Now, for 4 years running, the event has maxed out at 1500 cyclists showing not only how the support for the event has grown massively but also how popular cycling is across Devon. For 2014, the 15th anniversary of the ride, the ride was re-named ‘The Nello’ in his honour, a name which has been made permanent from then on.
The 2017 Nello was a great ride. A fantastic day was had by all riders and we are happy to say it remained incident free! Did you ride this year? Check out the Nello 2017 video, and see if you can spot yourself!
The Nello 2016 was thorougly enjoyed by all, and FORCE Cancer Charity have kindly compiled the day into a short highlights video.
Finally, here are some highlights of the 2015 Nello to see how popular the Nello Bike Ride is.
