Race Report - Modbury
19th March 2015
Round 1 Kalas Women’s SW Series in Modbury, Devon was held in cold and damp conditions on a rolling course over 40 miles, with our Emma, Lucy, Bethan and Alex having their first outing of the season together. Lap 1, the main bunch reduced in size to 18 riders, with a few attacks coming to nothing. Then on lap 2 the decisive break was made at the front with 2 riders gaining a sizeable gap over the chasing group, that
included Emma and Bethan, both of whom looked comfortable. Heading into the 3rd and last lap, there was always going to be activity behind the leading duo. Emma having a good-go with 10km to go, but getting pulled-back, Bethan trying to cover the counter moves. Coming into the last climb onto the finishing straight, a small group got a gap on our 2, but Bethan dragged Emma along with her, to have a 10th and 11th place finish, which is a great early season result in the 12 race series. A very well run, enjoyable event.
Elsewhere, Boris had a double-header weekend. Sunday's 10 mile TT being his first of the year and a finish of 3rd, again on a cold and breezy day, showing some really good form building. This followed a circuit race on the previous afternoon, finishing 12th overall, being in the 2nd group, after a group of 4 got away early.
Pete and Josh travelled to Surrey for the Pete Young RR, however in a crash-strewn race, Pete got tangled-up and hit he deck, but thankfully all ok. Josh covered moves the best he could, but a big bunch finish isn’t suited to his strengths, but a useful race workout nonetheless.
Over the coming weeks the riders combine all aspects of racing, and all over the country as the season really hots up. The 2nd round of the Women’s series in a hilly 17 mile TT at
Woodbury common, whilst road racing in Wales, is followed by the 2 day Totnes-Vire stage race, filling the busy calendar.
